Boomerangs

Boomerangs

  1. Explain the purpose of this activity?
The purpose of this activity was to help us gain an understanding of the aboriginal culture

      2. Explain the story on your boomerangs
The semi-circle with five lines is a human footprint and we can see them leading towards to full circle with semi-circles around it, This is a meeting place. In the back round, we can see a sunset witch stands for the time of day they are meeting.

Chapter 22

Chapter 22 - AmariI pause for a moment, aghast at the number of them filling the narrow path. Before today, I caught only glimpses of the labourers brought in to staff the palace-always pleasant, clean, groomed to Mother’s satisfaction. Like Binta, I thought they lived simple lives, safe within the palace walls. I never considered where they came from, where else they might have ended up, “Skies…” It’s almost too hard to bear the sight. Mostly, diviners, the labourers outnumber the villagers by hordes, dressed in nothing but tattered rags. Their dark skin blisters under the scorching sun, marred by the dirt and sand seemingly burned into their beings. Each is hardly more than a walking skeleton.                                                                                                                                                                          A message I take from this scene is that while the rich get richer the poor get poorer. This can be compared to real-life especially in developing countries

Chapter 23

Chapter 23 - Zélie
Metal gates fly open on the sides of the arena floor, and an endless flow of
water rushes in. This has to be a mirage. Yet litre after litre flows in. The water
covers the metal ground, crashing with the expanse of a sea.“How is this possible?” I hiss under my breath, remembering the labourers no
more than skin and bone. So many dying for water and they waste it on this?

The treatment towards the labourers unfair and horrible.  This reminds me of the amount of unfair treatment towards women in the middle east.
This also reminds me of how the Romans had mock sea battle as well.

My food bag Semester

Who was my profile target?
My profile was men in their late 20s most likely in there prime, who had a physically active job. eg construction worker.
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1cpLwTtnUoyYII9tnR_28Eg9x0T6WKaCeWwGBzRu49uE/edit?usp=sharing
What was your recipe decision based on? Explain why this recipe was chosen?
For this project, the three members of our group had to make a recipe based on the profile they had chosen. My meal was a chicken burrito, my other member's made recipes for a beef burger and the other one made a recipe for a Kumara and chickpea burger.
When it came to deciding on what recipe to choose, we wanted the most creative one out of the three we had made. It also needs a lot of nutritional value. We decide in the Kumara and chickpea veggie burgers.

Kumara and chickpea veggie burgers
Feeds four

Insert recipe
Pattie
Bun
Other fillings

Recipe
1 large kumara ( $1 ( $4.99 kg))
1 can chickpeas ( $1)
½-1 tsp cumin ( mrs rodgers $2.99 per package)
½ -1 tsp paprika ( mrs rodgers $1.99 per package)
½ tsp curry powder ( optional)

4 burger  buns ($2.49)

1 cup lettuce ( any type) ( $1.99 per whole)
4 medium slices of cheese ( low fat) ( chesedale $2.89) (or you can use block)
Tomato ( 1 sliced) (90c)
2 small tinned beetroot ( optional) ($1.25)
sauce( gormet tomato is a good option) ( should already have it)

Cost : $16.5
  1. Place kumara on a plate and cook in the microwave for 5-10 mins ( you will know its cooked when you poke it with a fork and it's soft). Cool slightly.
  2. Place chickpeas in a large microwavable bowl. Cook for 4-8 mins or until soft.
  3. Peel kumara once cool enough and place in a bowl with chickpeas ( the same bowl). Mash. add spices and mix well. Cool in refrigerator for 30 mins.
  4. Preheat oven to grill. Cut buns in half and put on an oven tray. Spread with sauce and put on the cheese. Grill until cheese is melted.
  5. Shape pattie mixture into 4 patties. Heat a little oil in a pan. Place patties in the pan and cook for 2-5 mins on each side or until the middle is warm.
  6. Place lettuce on the buns. Add patties on top and top with other fillings. Enjoy.

What changes did we make the second time around?
On the second time around, we add red onion, more spice and let it cool for the full half hour.
We added the red onion for clour, and the spice for more flavour as it was quite plain the first time, And made sure that the mixture was cool so the patties were formed easily.

What have I learnt this semester?
I learnt that there are alternatives for meat. eg kumara
I also learnt that bacteria has 6 needs to live.

Art Term 2 End Blog

I did a page about what I think is awesome about Hornby High School

What was my focal point and why?
My focal point is the text at the top left of the page.
I used this to be my focal point because I think it is the most important part of my work.

How are your shapes and lines leading you to your focal point? I used the bright yellow beams to attract eyes and lead them to the text

Why did you choose the colours you did?
In my plan, I decided to keep my page simple so there are not many colours.

How did my page mix with my partner's page?
We both have a plain yellow page.

I would rate myself 3.

Metal Carbonates

Aim: To show that carbon dioxide gas is produced when a metal carbonate reacts with acid.

Method:
1. Light your Bunsen Burner
2. Add a 'pea-sized'  amount of metal carbonate into one of the boiling tubes.
3. Place this boiling tube into a test tube rack. Ensure you have the bung and delivery tube ready.
4. Add 5 mL of acid to the boiling tube and quickly insert the bung and delivery tube ready.
5. Holding the other boiling tube with your tongs, capture the gas produced as shown in the diagram below.
6. When you think the tube is full, your lab partner should light a wooden splint.
7. Carefully remove the boiling tube from under the delivery tube, taking care to keep it facing upright.
8. Insert the burning splint into the mouth of the test tube.

Observations:
When acid was added it started to bubble.

Art - Magazines

In this first edit, my group has started on you can that it is not finished yet, but I really like the simple look we have created.
The rest of my group thinks it needs more color to add to it.

This second edit is also not finished, at the moument, I
think it looks messy and could use a cleanup. I like how
the font is the same on both pages

Next step is to add more text and go more in-depth on the words we have already add on
