Dte: Conditionals

  • What is Java
Java is a general-purpose programming language that is class-based, object-oriented, and designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible.
  • Where did you struggle most in this activity?
Using text to write the code because it is a lot different from blocks.
  • What was the easiest part for you?
The easiest part was using the blocks the help me write the code in text by transfer what I had already learnt.
  • What is conditional?
Conditional is a subject to one or more conditions or requirements being met.
  • What was conditional in the game?
The conditional in the game was when you toss the ball and it makes an animal sound.
  • Why does the while loop never stop?
We want it not to stop so the game will continue, so we program the code to do so.
  • If you wanted it to stop, how might you write this differently?
If we want to stop the game using the code we could take away the led and the delay and tell the game to stop.

Chapter 49

Strike, Amari.
Fathers voice rings in my head, but its not his strength I need.
Be brave Amari, Binta soothes instead.
Be the Lion.

This shows me that even in the darkest times we can still find a light to guide us, to us the way. That Evan with darkness bang on your door we can still find the strength to pull towards the light.

Term 2 Assessment Reflection

Term 2 Assessment Reflection

During the time of Apartheid, the black population of South Africa were served a lot of injustices. In the film THE POWER OF ONE, directed by John G.Avildsen we can see what it would have been like to live there during that time. In a Scene were two of the characters Pk and Gideon are going for a run through the slums we can see the unfair treatment towards black people of South Africa. Some of the techniques used in this scene are diegetic sound, camera angles, dialogue and shots. These film techniques helped us understand the importance of every scene. This move has a strong impact on the audience.

First, In this scene diegetic sound in favoured over the non-diegetic sound.  We can hear the footsteps of the runners, the sound of pickaxes hitting the ground, we can also hear the people voices under Pk and Gideon voices. With faded non-diegetic music playing in the background. I think the director, Avildsen favoured diegetic more because he wanted us to focus on the conversation the two fighters where having instead of the sounds around them. This conversation explained how missed treated the black people of South Africa were. This helps us understand what the black people of South Africa went through during Apartheid. We formed our own opinions about the man in charge. We can link this scene the ending scene where we watch as Pk and Gideon walk towards the sunset, we can see what type of men they really are.

Secondly, Avildsen uses a few Camera shots/angles. For example, at the start of the scene, we can see a two-shot. A mid-shot follows them throughout the scene, we also see a deep focus shot as they run back into the scene we see this multiple times. I think the purpose of these shots were to show a wider angle of the slums, so we could see how the black Africans were living. Once again this helps us understand what was happening during the Apartheid and how hard it was on the blacks. The importance of this scene is that unfair treatment just like this is happening to millions of people of all age and race around the world.

In conclusion, The Power of One directed by John G. Avildsen was a great movie with a powerful message. The use and choice of visual and verbal techniques in ever scene made the movie breathtaking. My favourite part was at the end of the movie when Gideon and Pk walked off into the sunset.

Reflection
I am proud that I finished the assessment on time to the level I was aiming for. I fell like I can now link and describe my examples using details and I even put in work at home.
This time I wrote the bare minimum, next time I could improve on writing more.
One thing I enjoyed about the film is that it shared the message of hope and show us how one person can have such a big impact on something.
One thing I found challenging about learning film was that a white man was chosen to save the black race from the other white people
One thing I learned that I will use the next time I write an essay is to use a template to help me write.
I found the template useful and they really helped me.

Chapter 36

“Those are father’s words, Inan. His decisions. Not yours. We are our own
people. We make our own choices.”
“But he’s right.” Inan’s voice cracks. “If we don’t stop magic, Orïsha will fall."
His eyes return to me, and I tighten my grip on my staff. Try it, I want to bark.
I’m done running away.
Amari redirects Inan’s line of vision, her delicate hands cupping the back of his
head.
“Father is not the future of Orïsha, brother. We are. We stand on the right side
of this. You can stand there, too.”
Inan stares at Amari, and for a moment I don’t know who he is. The ruthless
captain; the little prince; the scared and broken maji? There’s a longing in his
eyes, a desire to give up the fight. But when he lifts his chin, the killer I know
comes back.

When I read this text it makes me feel sorry for both sides, they have been fighting for so long over something that belongs to the maji. When Amari is talking you can tell that Inan is really listing hard, and we get a hint of what is to come.

Chapter 33 – Zélie

Chapter 33 – Zélie

Gods help us. I close my eyes, trying to drown the tragedy out. Through it all,
the cheers never stop. The praise never ends. As we stand on the platform, the
crowd rejoices as if there’s a reason to celebrate this bloodbath.
Beside me, Tzain holds me close; he hasn’t really let go since he carried me
from the ship. He keeps his expression vacant, but I can sense his remorse.
Though the competitor in him has prevailed, we’re still covered in the blood of
those who have fallen. We may have triumphed, but this is no victory.

This reminds me of fast and furious, and how dom is always putting family first.

Chapter 28- Amari

 Be brave, Amari
This time I hold onto Binta's words, wrapping them around my body like a suit of armour. I can be brave

A message I take from this text is that no madder what happens, we will always hold onto the words of our loved ones, even when in danger.

Chapter 26

Chapter 26 - Inan
“How long?” she breathes. “How long have you been a maji?”
She hisses the word like it’s a curse. Like I’m the spitting image of Lekan. Not
the boy she’s known since birth. The soldier she’s trained for years.
“The girl infected me. It’s not permanent.”
“You’re lying.” Her lips peel back in disgust. “Are you…are you working with
her?”
“No! I was looking for clues!” I step forward. “I know where she is–”
“Stay back!” Kaea screams. I freeze, hands in the air. There’s no recognition in
her eyes.
Only unbridled fear.

This hate of maji can be compared to many of the royals, including him. The type of hate that is shown towards the maji can only be taught. I predict that Inan will help Zelie and the others to bring back magic to Orisha.
